Which Windows versions does it support?+
All of them. The new HistoryKill 2026 scanner runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit). The classic legacy build (HistoryKill 2022.exe, available on the Downloads page) covers Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 — kept around so unlock codes from the 2005-2021 era still work for customers who never upgraded.
Does it run on Mac?+
Yes. The HistoryKill 2026 free scanner is signed and notarized by Apple and runs on macOS 12 Monterey or newer on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4). When you open it the first time, macOS shows the standard 'verified by Apple' dialog — click Open and you're in.
What about Linux?+
Not shipping today. The Rust scanner core is portable and the foundations are there, but we haven't packaged a Linux build yet. If you want to be notified when we do, email support@trustsoft.com with 'Linux' in the subject.
Is the Windows installer signed?+
It's not Microsoft-recognized signed yet — Windows SmartScreen will show 'Windows protected your PC' on first launch. Click 'More info → Run anyway' to install. We're in the process of getting Microsoft-recognised code-signing; once it lands, the warning disappears for everyone. The Mac build is already fully signed and notarized.
How is this different from clearing browser history?+
Clearing history removes about six categories of data inside your browser. HistoryKill removes 47+ — including DNS cache, third-party cookies, autocomplete entries, registry entries, recent-document lists, and free-space residue that even disk wiping leaves behind. Works the same on Windows and Mac, against Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi.
Does it slow down my computer?+
No. The Mac scanner is 7 MB; the Windows installer is 3-4 MB. It runs on demand (or on shutdown if you enable that). When it's not running, it consumes zero memory and zero CPU on either platform.
Will the free scan reveal everything before I pay?+
Yes. Download the free scanner for your Mac or PC and it shows every trace it found — by category, count, and the companies tracking you (with full details on each). You only pay if you want to flip the switch from 'reveal' to 'securely erase'.
I bought HistoryKill years ago — does my old unlock code still work?+
Yes, on the legacy Windows build it was issued for. Use 'Find My Code' in the header to look it up by the email you used. We have every code we've ever issued going back to 1997, indexed and ready. Recent purchases (within the last year) are resent free; for older accounts there's a $4.95 resend fee that covers our look-up and email cost. Old unlock codes don't carry over to the new HistoryKill 2026 build — that's a separate subscription.
Does the subscription renew automatically?+
Yes — once a year, at the same price ($47.95/yr, or $37.95/yr if you've ever bought HistoryKill before). Cancel anytime in one click — your installed unlock code keeps working forever, you just stop getting new versions.
Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. One click in the email receipt or in your Stripe customer portal. Your current unlock code stays valid in the version you've installed on either Windows or Mac; you just don't receive future updates.
